Chelsea won their first Champions league in history against German giants Bayern Munich but unfortunately finished sixth position in the Premier league. The lowest position since Roman Abramovich took over at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were not the only team awarded that night, three other teams also went away with various accolades and the Association stressed that,

"The awards was aimed to reward outstanding club performances, encouraging best performances and highlighting successful team management”

Chelsea’s award was based on its outstanding achievements during the 2011-2012 season on an European and Domestic level. Other teams which were also awarded includes Cypriot club APOEL (Best Sporting Progress Award in European Competition 2011-2012 season) Sampdoria (Award for the year’s Best Achievements) Shakhtar Donetsk (Best Community and Social Responsibility Programme.)

However, credit should be given to the whole team as it was a result of their team work and not individual performances.
