A little fact file of Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo

I was surfing the internet few moment ago and just stumbled on our Managers fact file. It was great, reading his profile to uncover what great things he had offered for the club as a player and now as the manager of his former club.
So guess what? I decide to share some facts about Roberto Di Matteo which most Chelsea fans out there don't know and ought to know.

1) Roberto Di Matteo was capped 34 times for Italy National team but he was actually born in Switzerland.

2) Di Matteo joined Chelsea as a player in 1996 and hasn't left London since then. He even earn his MBA degree at London's European School Of Economics during the years between his playing and managerial career.

3) He was signed by Ruud Gullit for English side Chelsea for a then club record fee of £4.9 million.

4) He helped the club finish 6th place in the league, their highest placing since 1989–90, and reach the 1997 FA Cup Final at Wembley. Within 42 seconds of the kick-off against Middlesbrough, Di Matteo scored the opening goal from 30 yards and Chelsea won 2-0. Di Matteo's goal was the fastest in an FA Cup final until the record was broken by Louis Saha for Everton in 2009.

5) Early into the 2000–01 season, Di Matteo sustained a triple leg fracture and did not play for the next eighteen months. He faced 10 operations and even the possibility of losing his leg. He ended his career at Chelsea at the early age of 31.

6) As a player for Chelsea, Roberto Di Matteo has never ever lost a match at Old Trafford. He has scores 26 goals in 175 appearances for Chelsea and he was later inducted in Chelsea's greatest ever FIRST ELEVEN.

7) As a manager of West Brom, Di Matteo lead to the automatic promotion of the side to the Premier League. However, on the opening day of the 2010 season, West Brom lost 6-0 to Chelsea and despite being named Premier League Manager Of The Month, with only 3 wins out of 18 matches, Di Matteo was released from his West Brom duties.

8) The Wembley stadium, where the FA cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea was held in 2012 was built on the site of the original Wembley Stadium of 1923. Roberto Di Matteo was the last man to score a goal on the original Wembley stadium before it was broken down to make way for the new Wembley Stadium.

9) Roberto Di Matteo became the first Chelsea manager to win the European most prestigious trophy this year 2012 against Bayern Munich after defeating the German club in penalties. -prynz
