Romelu Lukaku tired of Drogba Comparison

Chelsea loan striker to West Brom has vowed to make a name for himself instead of been compared as the “new Drogba”. The 19 year old Belgium international has grown tired of people comparing him to former team-mate Didier Drogba since he joined the Blues last season.

Lukaku has stressed that, him and Drogba might look alike and share the same style of play, but he is no Drogba. Drogba is Drogba and Lukaku is Lukaku.

The young Belgian is been compared to Drogba because of his physical style of play, strength and appearance but unfortunately, his chances to step in and play the Drogba role at Chelsea was limited by the Ivorian he is been compared to. Since he joined the West London from Anderlect, he has manage to start only one match for the Blues before he opt to join West Brom on loan.

However, despite the Drogba leaving Stamford Bridge on a free transfer to China last summer, Lukaku instead agreed to move on loan to West Brom where he would have the opportunity to play regular first team football. At West Brom, he had scored a goal on his debut coming in as a substitute in the second half against Liver pool. During his long season loan spell at West Brom, he had this discussion with Sky Sports where he comment on the issue of his similarities with the Ivorian striker. Lukaku said:

“Didier and I have a similar playing style, but I don’t think he would have wanted to be compared to someone when he was young. Every player wants to be their own person, their own personality. I don’t want to be the new any one. At first it was ok but now I’m bored of it. It isn’t necessary and I don’t like it now. I have my father’s surname, I am Romelu Lukaku, I’m not anybody else. This is my own name and the name I want people to remember."

Lukaku looks to return to Chelsea after his loan spell at West Brom, to make a name for himself instead of been call the 'New Drogba'. But there are reports which suggest that Everton are interested in landing the young Belgian international should in case Fellani leaves in January. A source from Belgium discloses that Chelsea could switch Lukaku for Fellani in January. Bolton had also showed interest in the Belgian striker.
