In the second half, Chelsea took the lead thanks to Willian, who curled
in a sublime effort from about 25 yards out of the box. Before Loic Remy scored
the second goal from Costa’s blocked shot. Despite the 2 goals, Chelsea looked
hungry for more goals and their persistence was rewarded with Zouma’s goal
which made it his second goal for the season.
Zouma’s performance in the game
and subsequent matches had made fans call for the Manager to consider him in for a Premier League start. Obviously, Mourinho
is not a manager who likes to change a settled line up. While the consistent
runs he affords his players in the starting XI is a good thing, sometimes, it
is also the reason why complacency creeps into their games.
Although Gary
Cahill and John Terry has been a near perfect match in the defence currently for
Chelsea but it seems one of them is suffering from fatigue. Especially in most
of the away games, which highlighted chinks in their pairing at defence.
Although neither defenders has the pace to handle fast attacking players, in
recent weeks, Cahill form has dipped severely. The English player has been at
the center of some of the sloppy play at the back and it looks as though it is
time to give him a break.
In Kurt Zouma, Mourinho have got a player who is not only
similar to Cahill’s style of play, but also has the one thing that the
29-year-old player lacks, PACE. The 20-year-old French international has
impressed in the League Cup and there again showed just why he deserves a place
in the starting XI of Chelsea in the Premier League. If you closely watch this
young lad play, you will understand the points I have made above. So do you
really think Kurt Zouma deserve a chance in Chelsea's starting XI? Let's hear your say.
