Chelsea attacking midfielder Juan Mata is hopeful that the blues can lift the Super Cup trophy in Monaco tonight 31-08-2012. The Spaniard believes the clubs European success of a few months ago can definitely repeat itself today as they knock-horns with one of Spanish best teams. Chelsea has won the Super cup one time in history defeating Real Madrid 1-0 in 1998.
Mata is desperate to continue building on his success of last season by overcoming Diego Simeone's men later this evening. 'A Super Cup is a special opportunity,' said Mata. 'It's a Spanish team as well, a team where I have good friends. We'd like to add this trophy to our list of achievements. 'It's very special, we want to win because of the team. The club winning the Champions League was a special moment and now we have another opportunity.'
Mata was named as Chelsea's Player of the Year having help the blues secure both the FA Cup and Champions League in his first season at the club. He was also part of the Spainish squad which lifted the European Championship trophy in Poland and Ukraine, coming off the bench to score the fourth goal in their demolition of Italy in the final. The talented midfielder has begun the current season campaign in a similar manner which he did last time. He has been a key factor in our three victories so far linking perfectly with Eden Hazard in the midfield.
Mata and Hazard will be key to our success against Athletico in France tonight. And he has lay praises on his fellow teammate stressing thus: 'Hazard is a good player, he's fitted in very quickly,' said the Spaniard. 'He's doing everything very well, has a lot of quality and can win a game on his own. We have a great understanding on the pitch already. 'We have big rivals, Fernando Torres knows them very well. They have a strong team, good strikers and defenders as well as quality midfielders.
Although Fernando Torres shouldn't be underrated in this game, he can come up to steal the show. Falcao will also be dangerous from the opponents attack having scored a ha-trick in their last match against Athletico Bilbao.
