Chelsea set for super cup tie with Athletico Madrid

Chelsea will contest for the UEFA Super Cup in Monaco today Friday as they go head-to-head with Europa League winners Atletico Madrid. This encounter is marked as a special occasion for everyone at the club right now, but particularly Fernando Torres, who started his career with the Rojiblancos and grew up supporting them.

"I have been an Atletico fan all my life and I was in the stands until I was 17, when I started playing," he said. "I missed the chance to play against them when I was with Liverpool; now I have an opportunity at Chelsea and there is a European trophy fans to play for."

But unfortunately standing in Torres' way will be a Chelsea player who is on loan at Atletico, Thibaut Courtois. Courtois is Athletico Madrid's first choice goal keeper, he has done marvelously well for the Spanish outfit in several occasions. Helping them to win the Europa league cup last season and maintaining a clean sheet against local rivals Athletico Bilbao in their domestic league encounter. It will be a real tough challenge for Chelsea to drive past Courtois because he is very good.

It is actually the second time the Blues have entered this competition, although the rules for qualifying were slightly different as of then from now. In 1998 Chelsea went on to win the cup thanks to Gustavo Poyet bagging the winner.

Meanwhile, the Champions league draws are over, and the Holders Chelsea will take on Italian giants Juventus in the same group which seems to be the only difficult opponent.
