Despite the fact that Fernando Torres was known to be a good striker at
Liverpool, he hasn’t really proved that for Chelsea. The 50million pounds striker has scored just 11 goals in
all competition for Chelsea and has not even come
close to the heights of what Robin Van Persie is doing at Manchester
united or what Sergio Aguero did for Manchester
city last season. And the worst part of it is that, he has been as anonymous and
exasperating as ever in almost all games.
Meanwhile, the arrival of Senegalese striker Demba ba from Newcastle has brought a little improvement in the attack
as Chelsea are
now scoring more goals. Comparing Demba Ba and Torres performances you will
come to agreement why Benitez should consider Ba to Torres as his main striker
if he really wants to win matches.
It took Torres 25 matches to reach three
goals for Chelsea while Ba has taken only four
to outscore his rival over the first half of the season in a struggling Newcastle side. According
to www.whoscored.com, Ba’s Premier League pass success rate at Tyneside (his former club) was 78.3%
compared to just 69.6% of Torres. His aerial dual per game is 2.9 significantly
better than Torres figure of 2.3.
Finally, Ba averaged a 4.5 shots per game
which doubles the 2.2 Torres has conjured. Ba in his short Chelsea career has managed to link up well
with Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Oscar and Victor Moses and still posing a more
constant goal threat to our opponents. Torres on the other end has been too weak to even contest
and win balls for himself.
I think Ba should be the better option in the attack
than Torres. If Roman is still persistent with the flopping Torres at the helm
of attack, then I see Chelsea
losing this one too.
