Ray Wilkins former Chelsea assistant manager thinks the current interim boss have a chance to become Chelsea permanent manager after Pep Guardiola snubbed Chelsea for Bayern Munich. But the former Blues U-21 coach believes that Benitez must have to win a trophy to stand a chance of staying at Stamford Bridge next season.
“It’s very difficult; (Benitez) has to win this year. If he wins, he’s got half a chance,” he told Goal.com “He’s got the Europa Cup, the Capital One Cup albeit they’re 2-0 down but their away form is splendid or they’ve got to win the FA Cup.
Wilkins feels the premier league title is already beyond reach for his former club but believes if Benitez could win just one trophy for Chelsea, he could stay next season.
