Benitez defend Torres after West Ham defeat

Chelsea lost 3-1 away to West Ham United after playing two goalless draws since Rafael Benitez took over from Roberto Di Matteo. The controversial manager has lead the Blues in three games without a win unlike his predecessor who made a great come back against Napoli in the Champions league last season after replacing Andres Villas Boas.
Despite the poor performances of Fernando Torres in front of goal in today's game, Rafael Benitez again jumps in to defend the struggling striker. Torres has now failed to score in eight domestic matches but Benitez remains adamant that the whole team is responsible for the Blues' recent poor form and not Torres. "I thought the team had chances, not just Fernando," said the interim manager.

"When you are attacking and you are controlling the game like we did in the first half, you have to score goals. "In the first half we could have scored two or three goals and it would have been completely different, but we didn't do it.
"West Ham's first goal was controversial but it made a big difference. After that we weren't in control and gave the ball away too easily."
