Chelsea wrap up the transfer window by sending out two of their fringe players, Michael Essien and Yossi Benayoun, to Madrid and West Ham United. The blues looks to cut short their expenses and the best way to do it was to loan out these players.
The pair each face a reunion of sorts at their new clubs, with Essien going to Real Madrid to unite with his former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho. The manager who brought Essien to the Premier League from Lyon, will now be working with the Ghanaian midfielder at Real Madrid. Why Benayoun returns to his former club West Ham, where he further left to Liverpool before joining Chelsea Essien was signed by Madrid as midfield cover after the club allowed Lassana Diarra to move to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala late in the transfer window.
Benayoun, meanwhile, spent last season on loan at Arsenal after falling out of favor under former Chelsea Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas. Despite returning to Chelsea this summer Benayoun could not break into the plans of Roberto Di Matteo and was allowed to return to Upton Park after leaving for five years. I believe the Hammers are happy to have the Israeli back.
