Chelsea boss has reassured fans that his boys are not giving
up on a competitive title run despite winning important trophies last season.
Di Matteo has allayed fears that his squad will rest on their laurels after
winning their first Champions League last term. No it is a new season and those
victories are by gone now. Ivanovich had also said that, Chelsea
will fight for every title this season and warns Manchester city to expect a difficult title defence. The blues won the FA cup last season and the European Champions
League trophy under the Italian manager and he has insisted that there will be
no complacency within the squad after the UEFA victory against Bayern Munich
last season.
He has described the new term as ‘a fresh start’ “There’s plenty
of trophies to win this season,” Di Matteo told reporters. “We have a very
driven team of players and they are never satisfied with what they’ve done in
the past. It’s a fresh start for us. It won’t be a problem from that point of
view. There are a couple of trophies our players have never won, and
challenging for the Premier League too.
Chelsea will have to work very hard
this time after a disappointing season finish which was said to be the lowest
ever in Roman Abramovich rule at Chelsea since 2004. Chelsea
finished sixth position on the league table if not for their Champions League victory;
they won’t have qualified for the biggest game in Europe.
However, Chelsea spent a reported amount of 66 million euros for new signings
which includes Oscar, Eden Hazard and co. Di Matteo has promise to keep a close
trail of the title defenders this time and never to allow the huge gap last
season to repeat it self again. The Italian boss said “there was a big gap last
season and that is one of our challenges this season, to bridge the gap” twenty
five points are a lot of points. It will be a tough season a head but we’ll try
and compete. When you are at the top, it’s harder to stay at the top than get
to the top. There will be plenty of clubs trying to catch them up this season”
