UEFA to Introduce Under-19 Youth Champions League Tournament in 2013

UEFA body have introduced the Under-19 youth Champions League and confirmed the tournament to begin in 2013. The competition seems to have been launched to limit the influence of the NextGen series which was founded in 2011 and limited to players below 18 years. this tournament was introduced to groom young talented players and prepare them to become better and professional players at the senior level.

The shadow tournament was planned in a way that only clubs that qualify for the senior campaign will be allowed to send their youth teams to compete at under-19 level. The UEFA youth tournament will be limited to 32 teams that qualify for the champion’s league proper with the same group composition and calendar but it will not exactly mirror the senior competition. The knock out stage will be played as single leg ties with the semi-finals and finals held at neutral venues.
