John Terry Clear of Racial Abuse in Court

John Terry has been cleared for racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand. The Chelsea captain's victory was celebrated by his cousins and family members right there in court when the verdict was passed. John Terry and former England skipper instead remained silent in contrast to his family after hearing the decision.

John Terry has since denies 'snapping' over affair taunts and refused ever using racial slurs on Anton Ferdinand. As District Judge Howard Riddle delivered his not guilty verdict, John Terry's cousin and members of his family leap from their seats, shouting “get in there” and punching the air. The sense of relief was palpable and though their exuberance ran afoul of the kind of behavior expected in a magistrates' court, this time, at least on the Terry side of the viewing gallery, it was accepted.

John Terry, meanwhile, remained calm, rising to his feet as the court was dismissed and taking leave of the dock for the last time. On the other hand, Ferdinand's family stood up and marched out of the court room obviously silent. It was impossible to read their reaction, though it must certainly have been tagged with disappointment.
