Ashley Cole not yet offered a new contract what's up?

Chelsea legend Ashley Cole has not yet been offered a new contract as his contract remains only one year at Stamford Bridge. The powerful left back has not even been approached by the club for a new deal. The 31-year old player moved to Stamford Bridge in 2006, and has since won one Premier League title, four FA Cups, and the Champions League currently in Munich in May this year. 

The Blues are yet to make any contact with the player or his agent over a new contract which means the Ashley cole could leave on a free transfer next summer. Is it wise to allow Ashley Cole to leave?
