Clarke, who made 421 appearances for Chelsea and worked as assistant manager under Jose Mourinho, will come up against his former team-mate Roberto Di Matteo for the first time as a manager. And, in an interesting quirk of fate, it's the Italian's first game against the Baggies since he left the club in 2011.
The Blues record against the Midlands club was flawless in Premier League action prior to a 1-0 defeat last term in a game which proved to be Andre Villas-Boas' last as Blues manager.
However, Chelsea had netted three times on their previous two visits, in 2011 and 2008, and the home side will be without on-loan Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku as he is ineligible according to the rules. But all is not lost for the home side as they still have threatening and in-form Nigerian striker Osaze Odemwingie upfront.
The big games are coming thick and fast now as we head towards Christmas and following hot on the heels of our visit to West Brom is a mouth-watering trip to Turin, where the Blues will face Juventus.
If Chelsea could defeat the Bianconeri, who held us to a 2-2 draw in our last Champions League encounter at Stamford Bridge, then we will progress in Group E. Di Matteo, a former Italian international, once netted for Lazio in a 3-0 win over Juventus in Turin - a repeat of that scoreline would make him a happy and magic man indeed.
