Juan Mata has shown an indication which reveals that, Chelsea players wish to have Pep Guardiola as their coach rather than Rafael Benitez. Especially Juan Mata who said he can't wait to see the former Barcelona manager take over at Chelsea.
The appointment of Rafael Benitez as Chelsea interim coach was done less than 48 hours after the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo, the former Liverpool Boss arrived at Stamford Bridge and meet the players to encourage them to be strong and train harder against their next big game on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Juan Mata hinted to GQ magazine that Benitez is not the man that Chelsea players wanted to see replacing Roberto Di Matteo, after the Italian was sacked in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The 24-year-old instead revealed that they wanted Pep Guardiola who is still on Sabbatical leave in US, to lead the Blues to success. 'Guardiola is a great coach who knows all the players,' he said. 'I think that he would be a great coach for any team.'
Mata was also quick to support his former boss Di Matteo, who led Chelsea to the Champions League and FA Cup victory in just a few short months at the helm. 'It's been a difficult day. Roberto Di Matteo is no longer our manager,' the Spaniard wrote on his official Facebook page on Wednesday.
'I would like to thank him for all this time with us and wish him the best of luck for the future. 'As a player he has been a legend for the 'Blues'. With him as a manager we won our first Champions League. He will always be remembered. Good luck Robbie!'
Meanwhile, Chelsea will play their first match under the stewardship of Benitez when they host league leaders Manchester City on Sunday. Should they win, they will close the gap to the top of the league table.
Goodluck to Rafael Benitez and his new club
