Wigan v Chelsea match preview plus International friendlies players rating

Just 2 days to go before the new season commence, the excitement in the air is palpable! This week's Sundays match against Wigan Athletic will be a big start of the season. The Blues are ready to kick-off the 2012/2013 Premier League season with a travel to the DW Stadium to face Wigan Athletic on Sunday. The Blues and Latics have previous when it comes to opening-day encounters as the two sides met in 2005, when Hernan Crespo's last gasp wonder goal sealed a victory for Chelsea.

Despite the lack of numbers at Cobham this week due to the international break, Roberto Di Matteo is hoping for a good start to the season after a disappointing 3-2 defeat against Manchester City in the Community Shield. Petr Cech, who was named as one of the top 10 players in Europe last season, expects us to be fitter and sharper after our Community Shield outing - and despite seeing Branislav Ivanovic sent off in that game, the Serbian defender will be available this weekend. After taking on Wigan, the Blues will then host promoted Reading at the Bridge next Wednesday. The Royals were defeated on their last trip to our west London home in 2008 thanks to a goal from Michael Ballack. Torres and Hazzard are the current favourites to score on Sunday. In 2 days Chelsea -Wigan Athletic can't wait for Sunday's game.

Meanwhile, the mid week's International friendlies saw most of Chelsea's stars featured in their country's side respectively. Ryan Bertrand continued his amazing year - having already made his full European debut in the Champions League Final, represented Team GB at the Olympic Games and scored his first Chelsea goal in Sunday's Community Shield - by making his senior England debut during the mid week's round of international friendlies. Frank Lampard captained the Three Lions, starting alongside Gary Cahill, and set up England's equaliser before Bertrand made his bow as a substitute and the side completed their comeback to beat Italy 2-1. Eden Hazard featured for Belgium in a 4-2 win over Holland, as did loanees Thibaut Courtois, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku, with the latter getting on the score sheet. Petr Cech picked up another one of his habitual clean sheets as Czech Republic drew 0-0 with Ukraine and there was also a successful shut out for defender Branislav Ivanovic, who skippered Serbia to a goalless draw against Republic of Ireland.

Fernando Torres helped Spain to a 2-1 win over Puerta Rico and Raul Meireles' Portugal beat Panama 2-0.
On a special occasion in Stockholm, Ramires, David Luiz and Oscar all played as Brazil triumphed 3-0 against Sweden in a rematch of the 1958 World Cup Final, played to mark the last match at the Rasunda Stadium, the venue for Chelsea's 1998 European It was the set time in a week that Oscar had represented Brazil after playing in Saturday's Olympic Games gold medal match at Wembley Stadium, but that tournament ended in disappointment as he had to settle for silver following a 2-1 defeat to Mexico. Lamps captain, Bertrand with England debut and goaline clearance, Lukaku scores, Torres as Spain captain As much as Defoe's goal was a stunning finish last night, the whole move was thanks to Ryan Bertrand's goal line clearance.

We just can't wait to see Oscar in a Blue Shirt as the season kicks-off this Saturday. Chelsea's newsletter from my inbox
