Good news for Chelsea
defender after receiving his marching orders during the Community Shield game against Manchestercity yesterday. The Chelsea
defender Branislav Ivanovic was issued a red card in the community shield
defeat to Manchester
City. But fortunately he will
not face any suspension for his red card booking. Ivanovic was sent off by
referee Kevin Friend near end of the first half. He caught Aleksandar Kolarov
with a high tackle that was deemed worthy of a straight red card and the referee
never relent in his decision.
Every one though the Chelsea defender would be ban for three matches due to the red card, starting with Chelsea’s opening Premier League game against Wigan on Sunday. But however, it appears the FA changed its rules after an incident during an Amsterdam Tournament in 2006, when the Manchester United pair Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney were sent off against Porto and served three-match bans. As the rule change covered all non-competitive pre-season fixtures, including the Community Shield, it means Ivanovic will be free to play the first match at Wigan.
