Roberto Di Matteo signs New Deal with Chelsea

Roberto Di Matteo has been named as Chelsea new manager after agreeing a two-year contract following a successful stint as interim first-team coach. The Italian established himself as a Blues legend during his playing career at the Bridge, scoring the winning goal in both the 1997 and 2000 FA Cup Finals, as well as striking in the 1998 League Cup Final.

Having managed MK Dons and West Brom, he returned to west London last summer to work as assistant first-team coach under Andre Villas-Boas, but replaced the Portuguese tactician at the helm in March and led the club to glory in both the FA Cup and, most memorably, the UEFA Champions League.

"Even without the trophies I thought Robbie had done enough to get the job," said former Blues full-back Scott Minto, while Marcel Desailly added: "He brought back the winning mentality that the club was looking for - and now Chelsea has the European trophy it deserved, finally. Congratulations Robbie! For your appointment, Chelsea manager. You really deserve it. Wish you good luck in the forth coming season at CFC
