Chelsea captain John Terry has been given a four match ban after being found guilty of a racial comment made towards QPR defender Anton Ferdinand last season. The former England center-back who has announced his retirement from the National team yesterday was handed a suspension by the FA despite being acquitted and declared innocent in a law court.
Terry was not only banned for four games, but also fined £220,000 being the second Premier League player under a year to receive a ban and a fine after being found guilty of racism following Luiz Suarez ban and fine for abusing Patrice Evra of Manchester United.
The 31 year-old was found guilty on the balance of probabilities rather than beyond reasonable doubt as the court demanded in its case. Terry is given 14 days after receipt of the written reasons for the decision from the English Football governing body to launch an appeal.
Meanwhile, if he decides to appeal, the penalty will remain pending until after the appeal is decided. This means the Blues defender will be free to play for us in London derby against Arsenal at the weekends and also play for up to two weeks afterwards if he does launch his appeal.
