Chelsea should be grateful for Saturday's three points from Ashley Cole's strike that push them to the top of the league table even though having scored his first goal since May 2010. Cole gave the Blues a late victory against Stoke City yesterday but unfortunately, Cole will be out of contract at the end of the season.
Cole and the club are still yet to agree terms as the defender demanded for more than a year contract deal while Abramovich still hold his grounds on issuing only one year contract to players above 30 years. This means the powerful left-back could listen to offers from other clubs in January.
But Di Matteo doesn't like the ideal of allowing Cole to leave just like that, he wants his England defender to stay, and hopes the club understands too.
"Ashely does not tell me what is going on with his contract talks. "His contract is between him and the club. "My recommendation to the club is to keep him for as long as we can. "Both parties are happy to talk to each other.
Lets see if the club will decide to offer Cole more than a year contract deal as he wants. Ashley Cole is currently the best left-back in the world, losing him on a free transfer wouldn't be the best option for Chelsea, as there is currently no replacement for him. I suggest he should be treated specially as he deserve.
